We're going for zero

In a world where the climate is rapidly changing because humans continue to emit CO2 into the atmosphere, it is crucial to reconsider the way we live and consume. Changing how we use energy, transport and materials can make a radical difference.

At Postevand, we've set ourselves the moonshot goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2025. We’ll be focusing all our efforts on eliminating emissions from our products, production and logistics, rather than just offseting.

This means constantly measuring our environmental footprint to understand our impact. You can read more about how we measure this below.

Reducing transport emissions

Transport accounts for around one fifth of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. As a company transporting goods, we are aware of our responsibility to reduce these emissions where we can.

Right now we have chosen to focus our resources on the following areas:

• Transporting over shortest possible distances and focusing on only delivering nationwide.
• Prioritising zero-emission or low-emission alternatives to fossil-based fuels such as biofuels, electric vehicles or even bike transportation wherever possible.

All products delivered directly from us are delivered either through AutoBude (orders above 400 units) or Postnord (less than 400 units).

Together with AutoBude we buy biodiesel from OK, a Danish energy company, equivalent to the amount of transportation we are carrying out. Biodiesel is made from vegetable oil and is a renewable biofuel that is a friendlier alternative to conventional diesel. With this change, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by our transportation by up to 90%.

The way this works is that AutoBude buys the equivalent amount of biofuel used in the transportation of our products. With this approach the actual truck delivering our products might not necessarily be operating on biofuel, but AutoBude must use the equivalent biofuel in their total yearly transportation. We acknowledge that this is not a perfect solution but until emission-free options are widely available, we believe this is the best solution.

Measuring our packaging

We want to be transparent about our products and give you the facts you need to make informed, ethical choices. A big part of this includes accurately measuring our environmental footprint.

We have chosen the internationally-recognised life cycle assessment (LCA) to reveal our packaging's entire lifetime carbon footprint — covering emissions from raw material extraction, material processing, manufacturing, filling, distribution and end of life.

Our LCA is currently in process by Anthesis, a company that works with the largest group of sustainability experts in the world.

You can read our full LCA here in the beginning of 2023.

Measuring our company

In 2022, we started calculating our company's emissions as a whole in partnership with Normative (a company offering accurate carbon accounting).

Understanding all our emissions is an essential step in our journey towards carbon neutrality.

Here are some of the concrete actions we have taken to further reduce our emissions:

• Using bikes as personal and cargo transport whenever possible
• Using electric cars whenever a car is needed
• Eating vegetarian food at our office (organic and local whenever possible)
• Renewable energy at our office building
• Avoiding domestic flights
• Purchasing only pre-owned electronics for our employees
• Decorating with pre-owned interior at our offices

We will publish our company's full carbon emissions in the beginning of 2023.
